Welcome everyone and thank you for taking the time to come and contribute to the fundraiser. Here’s the plan so far, we would like to host a traditional American style Easter Egg Hunt for Gel’s community so the kids can find the colorful plastic eggs filled with small candies and treats. Many people including myself have very fond memories of these types of events from our childhood but sadly enough not all kids get to grow up with such events. I believe the main reason is purely lack of funding for “extras”. Anyone who has been around from the beginning will remember Gel herself talking about not having a birthday party because she new the difference between “needs and wants”. Now please, don’t take that the wrong way as I believe that is a very responsible and adult attitude to have and if we were swapping cultures, that’s one I could get behind becoming popular in our society. Imagine a 12 year old average girl in America having such a practical outlook and not even being sad or resentful about it but just understanding that’s the way things are. Well if you were here from the beginning you also know Gel had a birthday party that she will surely not forget anytime soon. This is why we like to host these events, not to “spoil” the kids or try to change their culture but to just give them a day of fun filled happiness once in a while that is about wants and not needs.

When we did the school supplies project for Gels classmates we were able to help 100 kids with new school supplies many don’t usually get to have. I will be honest with you guys, the best and most rewarding part of the entire project for me was not helping the other kids but the fact that Gel was so excited to be able to help her friends and classmates. I actually suggested prizes or small toys and it was Gel who told me that school supplies would be better because sometimes they have to use the same ones year to year.

To wrap it up I will just say almost everyone likes to “receive” but it takes a very special type of person that finds more joy and excitement in giving rather than getting and if you watch those videos you will see Gel is that type of person. Now since I am only one person and Gel is not familiar with the tradition of Easter Egg Hunts, I created this forum and encourage everyone who wants to get involved to leave comments and suggestions how to make this the best day we can for the kids.
